"If you could please share this with the writing group Lex was in, I think her family would appreciate it. I'm shaking.

At 2:33 a.m., Lex's core body temperature dropped to 79 degrees and her blood oxygen fell below 60%. She went into cardiac arrest and a code blue was called. A code team came into her room and, despite Lex's DNR, used a defibrillator twice. The second attempt was successful, but her heart rate (along with body temperature) is very low, and her doctors are worried about permanent damage to her brain and body. Teams of doctors (heart, brain, and lung specialists, as well as her oncologist - I don't have the full details) are talking to Toby about removing Lex's oxygen and IVs. He has not yet decided if this is what Lex would want since it's only been three days. But she is not showing signs of improvement. If she remains unresponsive or trapped within her own brain or body, she has clearly stated in her DNR that she wants to pass in peace. I just hope that choice doesn't have to be made. She's 39 years old. James is only 9. There are no words for how... awful that is.

Toby (husband) is hanging in as best as someone in his position can, and is still with her at University of Maryland Medical Center. He's asked for all contact to go through me (Jared) or her mom (Lynn, who said she's happy to share her public email, which is [email protected]). He is not ready to share Lex's status on major social media platforms (Twitter or Instagram) until a final decision has been reached since Lex has hundreds to thousands of followers between the two and doesn't want to deal with the comments and messages. However, he did say that sharing this information with a group of friends she actually spoke to and loved to write with would mean a lot to her, and that her very close and best friends in real life also know what is happening.

If anyone has a message for Toby to read to Lex - Gary, can you either create a post so people can leave them there, or, if not, can people DM me? I'd like to have a bunch of things for him to share with her in the next 24 hours. The sooner the better.

Thanks so much. I'm sorry for this update. I just wanted to pass along her status and the idea of passing messages along to her to be read, just in case she really can hear them. I don't know if she can, but I want to hope it's possible.
