Green Room - Week 18 - Day 7

Hello lovelies!

Let's talk turke-er-TV! New series are upon us and I'm totally stoked (this is my shameful secret, I probably watch way more TV than one person is ever supposed to!). Let's see, Good Girls Season 2 debut this week. I'm usually one of those people who sees the pieces on the board, and the movements they're going to make like a move or three in advance. For some reason, though, when I expect this show to zig, it TOTALLY zags! I have no idea where they're going, but I'm excited to find out (also, I'd love to murder Wesley in his sleep =P).

Is anyone trying NBC's Enemy Within? I gotta admit, that first episode HOOKED ME. Now, less shameful, and probably not a secret, I admit I have much love for Jennifer Carpenter! She kills me! The way she can simultaneously smile, but make it so pained, or let her voice waver between the octaves of humor and despair. It's just something I don't know that I've ever really seen before. I could understand if she's bugs people, I could see that, but for me... sold!

Oh, I'm also really enjoying Zack's Pre-Apocalyptic Showdown. Otherwise known as The Passage. The little girl (Saniyya Sidne), is just amazing! And I really love the connection between both she and "The Agent" (aka Zack from Saved By The Bell). =D Man, the casting on this one! You got Desmond from "The Hatch" and Lucky from the Boardwalk and that kid from the Exorcist. So far, a pretty decent show!

The Good Fight starts on the 13th, I think, and if there's ever a show I've spent the last 3 years anticipating, it's that one. Those who know me, know I'm a liberal, and I get why, as a conservative, that one might be a little hard to enjoy. I'd just encourage those who might think the rhetoric is too thick to give it a chance. I think, and obvs this is just my opinion, but I think it's trying really hard to say, "Hey, even if we don't share common ideas for this Country, at least we can try to come to a place of logic and reason, while respecting one another." IDK. Maybe that's just what I want it to be saying.

Handmaid's Tale is coming up, and there's that Whiskey Tango dealy! I watched The Neverland one, too, on HBO the last few days. It was a hard one. Whether you believe the two of them or not, it's time to start admitting (and _understanding_) that sexual abuse (or abuse in general) does some pretty crazy things with the mind. You make concessions with yourself, all in an effort to make an abnormal situation liveable. I know I did (I wasn't sexually abused, but that was the only way i wasn't). The Nation seems a little too divided right now for logical and cool-headed conversations about such volatile things, I think, but we need to have them soon!

So what's on your TV dance card this season? What are you looking forward to and what are you glad to let go of? Has one of the big three cancelled one of your darlings? Gah, they always seem to nix the best stuff, don't they? Talk amongst yourselves!

We watched The Enemy Within pilot last night, and yes-- Jennifer Carpenter was why we were even interested. We're re-watching Dexter via Netflix streaming, and she's amazing as Deb. You feel embarrassed for her, pained for her and occasionally BY her, but Deb is so genuine. That crooked smile, that mixture of emotions... Carpenter played a completely normal and really nice person in Limitless, where we also really liked her, so that's all the character, really.

My only wish is that she would gain about 15-20 pounds, but that's all about looking anorexic, and could just be body type that you can't always change.

We're still enjoying The Blacklist (though not the recent plot direction), The Good Doctor, and The Rookie. I'm looking forward to iZombie, but also hoping that it digs itself out of the dark place it's in. Sad...

Oh, we loved Limitless. We re-watched it over the summer (or over Xmas break?) with our son, who got a huge kick out of it. And the little side-fantasies in Brian's head were some of my favorite parts, because they were SO random. The clay figure Video-To-Self, the 60s spy movie fantasy, the Ferris Bueller episode, even the re-envisioning Nas' adventure in DC as a video game-- all so creatively weird and awesome. I hate that they cancelled it (and worried that other viewers hated those side detours when they were part of what made the show wonderful!)

Our son looked it up on the Internet, and it seemed that the fact that is revolved around a magic drug was too slippery-slope for the network and potential buyers, even though the show was very clear on the ugly side of the drug. Black and white thinkers, man. :(

The Blacklist is worth catching back up on, and Netflix has at least the first 5 seasons on streaming. I never liked James Spader much especially when he was younger, but I caught him playing off of William Shatner's Denny Crane in 'Boston Legal' from time to time (Shatner's character was freaking hilarious), and Spader is SO funny as Red. Avuncular and dark and masterful all at once.

I wasn't familiar with Highmore until The Good Doctor, but I'm blown away by his work. Last night's episode? Holy f**k. He is _living_ that character in all possible ways, the good, the bad, the angry, the hurt, the confused and frustrated. Wow.

The Rookie is delightful. I do wish it didn't feel like Nate was so desperate for us to like him there, but I DO like him-- and I adore Lucy Chen and Talia, for very different reasons. I also find the Captain wonderful-- both badass and compassionate-- and Tim Bradford is kind of killing me with his combination of tough-love-asshole, Solomonic wisdom, and tiny little bit of heartbreak. :D

This is Us is my fave. Still loyal to Grey's Anat. ALso The Good DOctor, The Resident, and New Amsterdam. Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon are fun as is the newer Murphy Brown. Can't wait for another round of Stranger Things and....oooh!!!! Hand Maid's Tale season 3! SHameless is still a hoot too.
