Green Room - Sign Up Week - Day 3

Apparently, the Cubs did something last night.

My guess is that they stole a picnic basket, or perhaps were filmed cuddling a kitten. Maybe they pretended to maul someone.

Those cubs are just adorable.

Speaking of adorable, I got to hold my new niece last night!

She was born on Tuesday, but shhhh!! There's a social media blackout until her Mom is ready to post pictures. So pretend I didn't say anything. But come on - it was pretty awesome.

What I *can* talk about though is that Sign-ups are still happening at http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/945807.html

So please spread the word.

We will have a topic on Sunday. Yes, I'm actually letting you know when there will be a topic post! Isn't that unique and maybe a little scary?

The door will be open for awhile, but make sure folks know not to delay! The sooner they get here, the more they can be involved with!

There was a comment that I saw yesterday about the difference between a "competition" and a "contest", and how that individual sees Idol.

I point this out, because it's the perfect thing for newbies to see, and I hope that they did.

Even the definition of "what is this thing called Idol" is something that changes every season. YOU get to take part in that. This is your Green Room. This is YOUR SEASON. It doesn't matter if you've been here 10 years or you showed up yesterday.

Which is something that always gets me excited at the start of every season. Because I have a plan. I have a template. But so much of what is about to happen is going to play out between all of you, and is going to shape what Season 10 is all about. I'm really looking forward to that!

I think the Green Room is helpful in creating the community spirit. Yeah, commenting on entries is important too but so many funny things happened in the GR and we got to know about each others' lives in other ways than in our own journals. We shared a lot of stuff and in ways supported each other. Don't get me wrong. There was serious drama too which did cause some hurt feelings. Gary can attest to that for sure! But I think that can happen in any community. It was fun meeting people . a couple of people came here to my home which was nice as well. I've met wonderful friends via the internet. I am cautious but for the most part things have been positive.

That's wonderful that you were able to meet Idol-ers, invite them to your home even. I love seeing that kind of positivity. It would be fantastic if this season that kind of spirit developed, for everyone.

And the GR is a great place to get to know one another. Once we start actually writing to prompts, being such a slow reader--I am, it's terrible, I know--I find I have less time to hang out here reading and commenting. (Sigh!) But iit is the perfect venue for sharing and building friendships.

I'm not that good with drama. Too much growing up. When drama happens my insides resemble traffic jams, horns honking, the whole nine yards. Note to self: get over it! Hehehe. If only it were that easy.

I know. Once entries start rolling in it gets hard to keep up here. I know I'll try as it's fun to chat! I've missed it for sure. I've been very absent in my own LJ and am trying to muster energy to write more often.

My lj journal entries are sporadic at best. It's sad, but it is what it is.

You know I have missed Idol, but I had no idea how much till we started signing up for this season. I mean I have been a little off my rocker, you know? Hehehe!

[livejournal.com profile] baxaphobia's comment reminded me I also met another Idol friend 3 times. She lives in Australia; she visited me once in Malaysia, we met up in Melbourne together (coincidentally travelling there at the same time), and she also came to SF after I moved here. She'll be back in my area pretty soon and we're planning to try and meet up again then.

You know, I'm a slow reader too. You have to pick and choose how to prioritise your time. I tended to prefer getting to know people in the GR than making sure I read and commented on every entry. I don't know how I'll be this season with that, though.

Edit: Oh my goodness, reading another comment reminded me I met up with other Idol people in London, and one of those people I saw again in Australia. Which reminds me of another Idol person I met in Australia. At this rate I'm probably forgetting more.

Also, one of my friends in SF is someone who was a mutual LJ friend of one of my California Idol friends, who introduced us when we both moved here around the same time. She never played Idol herself, but it was cool to meet her through an Idol friend. :D

You know I think it's great that you've been able to meet so many Idol-ers. So much so that over the past few I've noticed my eyes are turning a bit green. LOL!

Well here's how I prioritized as season nine progressed and I learned the hard way. I mostly read my faves first 'cause I can't wait to read them, and then go down the list (which I print) skipping the longer entries till the end. I can read through the shorter entries quickly leaving me more time for the longer ones, though I prioritize them too. My greatest downfall is that I love reading all the comments and replies, and that can take a long time. :-)

I remembered another one I met in NZ as I went to reply to this comment; crazy I didn't even think of her considering we published together for a while and she's playing this season, too. I've clearly met too many Idolers. XD Where do you live? You never know, it could turn out to be easy for you to meet some yourself!

That was pretty much how I prioritised my reading, too. If I knew I didn't have time to read everything in a given week, sometimes I'd use the green room to find interesting people I wanted to make sure I checked out. I can't help wanting to read comments and replies too. Seeing what other people have to say is definitely part of the fun.

I'm in Calgary. :-)

I haven't been keeping a running total, have you? How many is that now?

Yeah, I am a comment reading addict. LOL!

[identity profile] banana-galaxy.livejournal.com 2016-11-04 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I know where Calgary is. I know people who are from there, though I've never been (and they don't live there any more). I'd love to visit someday, though, and check out the improv there. I was very impressed with people I met who trained at the Loose Moose out there.

I haven't either, but I also wasn't clear on how many people I met up with in Pennsylvania and Virginia, so we wouldn't have been able to do a proper tally anyway. I can try and figure it out now, though. (It was 7 at those two meet ups). And I think of all the other ones I mentioned, that's another 7, for a total of 14. But I've also met 3 other Idolers who I knew previously in other communities (actually one of those I said I'd met in London was someone I'd known from another community, too). So I guess that technically makes at least 17. 18 if you count meeting the ex-husband of someone I met at one of the meet ups who ended up competing briefly after that, too. Jesus that sounds like an insane number. I think I might've met someone else in Malaysia but I don't remember who they were because the circumstances were different.

The green room is the perfect place for you, then ;)

Loose Moose! Back in the day, when I was in college and studying Theatre, our shop instructor studied under Keith Johnson who, I believe, founded Loose Moose. It's a small world!

That's terrific! To have met all those Idol-ers, from all over.

Yup, I think the GR is the place for me. ;-)

[identity profile] banana-galaxy.livejournal.com 2016-11-05 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think these guys I knew studied under him, too. :D

I've certainly been very fortunate to have been able to travel a lot and meet a lot of online friends!

LOL! I love all the updates! My mind works that way, too. I truly appreciate "edit."
