There were 3 strikes being given out. This week we came within a single vote of it being a 4 way tie for that last spot.

Ultimately though, as close as it came we only ended up with a "bottom 3", with 2 of them receiving their final curtain call.

Goodbye - and thank you - to [personal profile] furzicle  and [personal profile] stellinas , who were both outstanding in this mini season that does not end. Thank you so much for coming out. I hope you had fun, and will continue to support your favorites and cheer them on as we move closer to the end.

The other strike is to the always great [personal profile] mollywheezy

A few words from [personal profile] clauderainsrm:

And now, the end is near…

Looking at the numbers, that seems true. The way things have been going though, who knows! After all, there have been multiple weeks where we have barely escaped what would have been mass eliminations that would have sped things up considerably, only to avoid it by a vote or two and instead move the bar an inch or two forward.

How long will that luck hold out?

That’s what makes this 3 Strikes format so unpredictable.

This week I’m changing things up a little bit and instead of the 2 lowest vote-getters, it’s the lowest *3*.

Which has the potential to make things interesting!

With so few entries, there is no excuse to miss out on anything! Read. Comment and vote for your favorites!

The poll closes Thursday October 20th, at 9pm ET.

Good luck to everyone!

I'm feeling better. Well still in pain, but t's a different kind of pain. (where you know you are in the healing process)

It's funny because my dentist's office called me a half hour after my procedure and I thought "OK, they are checking on me - but I haven't even gotten home yet, waiting for the prescription to be ready" but it turns out they were wanting to know when I wanted to schedule my teeth cleaning!  :D I had to explain that I really couldn't answer that right now.

How is your weekend going???

[personal profile] clauderainsrm
Just a quick update.

Personal - Dealing with a severe tooth infection. Going to the dentist tomorrow for treatment.  (Severe as in "has been waking me up from a sound sleep in pain". I already went in to get it checked out and now have antibiotics)

Work - One of the people on the team who helped get us through the transition has her last day next week. It's going to be a HUGE blow. The part-timer who helped out from another department is leaving the week after that. (But going to new jobs)
The good news is that we started a new employee this week. But she's not going to be up to speed for a few months to handle any of what needs to be handled.

Idol - the new prompt is up https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1129985.html    Results -  were correct. Sad. But correct.  No one has an extra strike (the "extra strike" being referenced was from Week 8 where the poll didn't close, so NO ONE received one.)   Sad for the person leaving, but not so sad for the person who wasn't eliminated.  :) Not that I'd retroactively eliminate anyone under those circumstances regardless. There is no precedent for that action and I wouldn't start one now. It wouldn't be fair.

DW
- anyone else experiencing technical issues? It didn't let me use "rich text" the other day.

How are you doing?
clauderainsrm: (Default)
[personal profile] clauderainsrm
The prompt is
"“Regrets, I’ve had a few “

With the numbers dwindling - let's hope you don't have any after this week!

The deadline to link your entry back to this post is Saturday, October 15th at 8pm ET.

Have fun!

I don't think I should mentally predict anything else this mini season, because I'm always going to be wrong. :)

I'd mentioned before that there was someone who, by the numbers, was the odds on favorite to win - because they were in the top (or close) in every contestant only and email only vote. Having the support of the hardcore Idol voters, and fans, seems like a no-brainer as the person with the inside track. Clearly this is their game to lose.

Except of course, they just lost it tonight.

Tonight we are saying goodbye to an absolutely incredible writer, who has been "bringing it" every single week that he's been in the competition, and for some reason just seems to have a glass ceiling at about this point every single time.

[personal profile] rayaso  is an amazing writer and just all around person from his interactions that I've seen with everyone around him.

He's also one of the few people that I don't need to wonder if he will be hanging around and rooting for his favorite(s). ;)

Rod Stewart sang "Tonight's the Night" (recorded at Muscle Shoals, so of course the backing band is the best part of the song. :D)

In this case, he was right. Tonight is indeed the deadline night. It's up for debate on if everything is "gonna be alright" though. That is for the voters to decide, and if today's voting is anything like the last couple of days - and weeks - and months, there is no telling how this is going to shake out. https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1061039.html

The only thing that I *do* know is that a talented writer is going to be leaving us. The only mystery will be "which one".

The great thing about having a new co-worker who lives out in the boondocks is that she has to drive by me anyway to get to work, so I've been getting a ride. The bad thing is that when she's out, that means getting up extra early to make the bus that I'm not used to catching anymore.

You get spoiled on things like riding in cars awfully quickly! :)

Last night was the perfect storm of US reality television with Survivor followed by the premiere of the new season of The Amazing Race. For anyone who didn't catch the Race, this time is a gimmick season with all the contestants being former CBS reality show contestants, which means some returning Racers, Big Brother House Guests and yes, some Survivors. I tend to be a purist when it comes to the Race - not liking stunt casting. BUT I also know that the ratings haven't been great - to the point that the show didn't have a time slot this year, it's only on because that Million Dollar Mile/Tim Tebow show crashed and burned so quickly. So right now I'm just happy that there is a Race on at all. If they need to do a celebrity edition every once in a while to get ratings back up, in order to get the show I love back on in between, I'm going to have to be OK with that.

That said, it was actually pretty darn good. I'm kind of looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Speaking of TAR - the host, Phil Keoghan, has a podcast. It's been going for awhile now, but I only just heard about it because of an interview about the new season. It's really good. It's called Buckit https://philkeoghan.com/ and is all about "Tickit Before You Kickit". (making the most out of life, while you can) which has been very much on my mind lately, for obvious reasons.

It's really inspiring.

***

Speaking of inspiring, and making the most out of life - someone we love isn't going to make it another week. Right now, according to the poll, it really could be anyone: https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1061039.html so make sure to get out there: read, comment and vote for your favorites to stay in!

A few words from Gary:

Remember what it was like when there was no poll to watch, or deadline to meet? That feeling of “peace” and having “freedom”?

For one of our 5, they are about to experience that again.

In case you have forgotten, the matching portion of the purse for this season will be split between our Top 4.

Since we will be losing 1 contestant from this vote, that means the stakes for this week is the difference between “it was a good experience” and “it was a good experience and i have extra cash in my pocket”. Which is a first for Idol.

I really have no idea how this is going to go. I thought that by taking the time to read through the entries a couple times I might be able to manage a prediction - maybe someone had an “off day”, but nope. They are 5 really entertaining entries. I don’t envy the voters having to make this choice.

The poll will be closing Friday April 19th at 9pm EDT.

Good luck to everyone!

I always say to head over to the eliminations page to say goodbye to people, because at some point it's going to be you. This is taking that notion to the extreme, but Kate's memorial page is up: https://kathryn-mrdja.muchloved.com

Stop by and post something, if you have anything to say, or share...

I haven't yet. But I will.

It's a bad transition, because there are no good transitions - but tonight is the deadline: https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1059383.html so make sure you get your entry in.

I know it's not as exciting as Notre-Dame's Cathedral being on fire - but the Idol final 5 is going to leave even more destroyed in it's wake! (because fortunately most of the art had already been moved. Whereas your art is still inside of you!!)

In case you didn't notice, I extended the deadline by a day.

It's a combination of "Tax Day" and "it turns out there is a school event tonight that no one told me about". :)

So you have an extra day to get your entries in: https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1059383.html

Also, in case you missed it - the Write Off happened this weekend, and we are now down to our Top 5: https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1060161.html Make sure to pop over there to say goodbye!

I watched Game of Thrones last night and am still reeling from the death of Jon Snow. I can't believe they killed him off in the first 5 minutes. One minute he's walking across the courtyard at Winterfell and the next a dragon lands on him "accidentally"! That was anti-climatic for the character but I'm looking forward to seeing how this shakes out for all the others on the show.

It was probably even more shocking though to find out that the Night King is actually more of a Day Duke. I thought that would be in the final episode! Now I have no idea where they are going with this show!!!

There is a Write Off - https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1059277.html

and a new topic - https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1059383.html

***

When the dust settles in the Write Off, we will be at our Top 5, one step away from those who will be walking out of here with a little bit more than just the satisfaction of having accomplished something and a whole lot of new material that they have created.

Which makes this the cruelest cut of them all in many ways.

It's definitely the one that I, personally, have been dreading the most.

What have YOU been dreading the most lately? ;)

I spent all day yesterday trying to flush something out of my eye. Which involved a lot of being in pain. (I thought you'd appreciate knowing that)

Then on the way home today there was a bus that never showed up - followed by another bus that took a *long* detour (really weird considering how easy their detour could have been... but I digress...) and a general grappy day at work.

I apparently decided to top it off with completely spacing that I said 8 instead of the usual 9. Why did I say "8" in the first place? Who knows. I don't! Had my eye still not been bothering me earlier, I probably would have took a closer look at it. Of course then I would have been flipping out trying to log on from my phone and figuring out how to close two polls in the span of a couple seconds...)

At any rate, thank you for the emails.

Because of them, I did get a screen shot of where things stood within 10 minutes after it ended. I know there were a couple last minute surges though that may have come after the poll would have been closed... it's one of those decisions that I'm probably going to get wrong regardless of what I do. That's why they pay me the big bucks though. ;)

I was going to add scores together or take the top few from each poll and give them something special - but I was looking at giving advantages to roughly half the field at that point. So since this week was unexpected with the dropouts, and unexpected with me missing a poll closing, I'm going to do something equally unexpected:

I'm giving the advantage to everyone!

That's right, it's an even playing field.

The 10 remaining contestants have each received ONE TOPIC BYE.

Not the usual bye, which covers a week. But one that covers an individual topic. (If there are two topics that you would need to write that week, you would only need to write one... if there are three, you only do two... and so on)

You can use them between now and before we hit the Top 4, and yes - you can give them away if you really want to do so.
Sorry to those on top of the polls. (Although you are getting what you would have received anyway!) But congratulations to those on the bottom.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The poll closes tonight http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/926149.html and we will see who is going to emerge with an advantage for this last stage of the competition!

Looking at the slate of talent, it's kind of difficult to tell who *doesn't* have an advantage! So it's going to be who has the "outside" advantage!

Will we see familiar faces in the finale? Will people who have never been there before show up? Will it be a mishmash and over the next couple of weeks we will have no idea what's going on until it actually happens? (Betting on the last option)

Whatever the finale looks like - it should be exciting, and the road to get there will doubtlessly have a few surprises in store for us all!

How was YOUR weekend?

What has surprised me over the last couple of months is how popular dabbin' seems to be with suburban white middle school kids. Almost every photo we take these days has a dab and non-dab version to it. ;)

I mention this because I was aware of the dab and a little bit of where it came from, so I wasn't *that* surprised to see it start happening in my every day life. Well, I was... but it does make sense. If the elbow goes up to show your confidence, who needs to be making a show of confidence more than middle school students?

There was one cultural phenomenon though that completely blindsided me yesterday, to the point that I had to look it up to see if it was a really a thing or just one person. It's nothing that has appeared in my own life, other than in a discussion of "stuff that happens".

Funeral selfies.

I looked it up. It's a thing. It's actually (apparently) fairly common among a section of the population. I'd never heard of it. Which made me wonder if funeral dabbin was a thing. I didn't find any links any "think pieces" on it, but I'm sure it is... if it's not, it will be soon.

And since I mentioned it online - that also means there is now funeral dabbin' porn available, possibly Hitler-related funeral dabbin porn.

You're welcome internet.

You're welcome.

Also of note - this poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/926149.html Read, comment and vote for your favorites! It won't eliminate anyone, but it will give a couple people a leg up in these final weeks, that could help determine who is going to win this thing!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

Good evening. Well, it’s not really a good evening because I have some bad news.

Well, it’s good news for some of you.

Because you are now the Top 10!

[livejournal.com profile] cheapxdate missed the deadline, and [livejournal.com profile] witchwife posted a sacrifice entry.

Personally, these are crushing blows, because I thought both of them added quite a bit to the mix, and was looking forward to seeing how they were going to take it to the next level in the coming weeks.

Their departure brings us the two contestants who were going to be eliminated this week, one from each poll.

So - what do we do now? I could eliminate more than originally planned… or do something else.

When push comes to shove - I’m going to “do something else”.

The contestant with the most votes in each poll will receive a special advantage that could help you win the competition! (or at least get you one step closer to doing so) I’m actually kind of excited to see how it will be used at this stage of game.

The poll closes Monday, May 2nd at 8pm EDT

Good luck to everyone!

Time goes by so fast when you're having fun doesn't it?

It also goes by quickly when you have a pack of wolves at your heels. One of those is about to happen now!

Right now there is only 1 person across the finish line. Hopefully the rest of you will get there soon. If not, we have our winner. *cue dramatic music* as I continue to torment you!

So what do you have planned for this weekend, other than recovering from being tormented?

All the talk about the "transgender restroom issue" has been reminded me of the talk about how "gays shouldn't be able to use the same restrooms/changing rooms" because they "might do something".

Which reminded me of the struggles of homosexuals throughout the years.

Which reminded me of my neighbor in the mid-90's, Larry.

Which reminded me that AIDS stole my VCR!

I had a VCR. Larry loved to tape movies and TV shows. He had an entire room that was filled floor to ceiling with tapes. (He would have *loved* On Demand viewing/Netflix/etc) He needed an extra VCR in order to record, and I wasn't using mine. So I let him borrow it.

Larry had AIDS and ended up dying with my VCR still in his possession - and the charity that he had left all his belongings to swept in pretty quickly and took everything, including said VCR.

I may have told that story before, but it's not something that I think of often... and it reminds me that AIDS needs to be stopped, before it steals anything else.

Btw - your deadline is tomorrow! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/924359.html Hope you've been working!
