and now for everyone's favorite part, "Gary talks about his job"... because that's why we are all here right? ;)
I talked to my team, and I was wrong. All 3 of them are now actively looking for other jobs.
It's not just the coming back in the office. It's the hours, the pay, the everything.... going through a transition is hard. The old company doesn't have any reason to help you and the new company isn't in a place to do it... and even if they were all the old executives are scrambling for favor in hopes of getting jobs with the new people.
With my back to the wall and the jaws closing in - I threw a hail mary pass. I emailed the CEO again. We've been in the same transition meetings. I've talked to her via email before and we had just gotten out of a meeting where my name came up at least 6 times from the state officials leading the transition as the person they were going to be working with on various projects.
I let her know the situation and how much moving back to the office was going to hurt. I alone would lose 3 hours of day of potential work for them. Or, when we went back full time, 15 hours a week. During our busiest time of the year. During a transition. I've asked for a hold on that "back to the office" decree - for us - for a couple months to give everyone time to get through this transition and for us to be fully staffed again. (Who wants to join a company that is going away soon?? The new blood, offering a better salary, might have better luck.)
If I lose even 1 more of my team, we're in bad shape. (well, there's 1 we COULD lose and not impact much, but I didn't point that out. :D)
All 3? The entire circuit is done and everything this new company wants to is going to be even more of an uphill battle.
I sent the email... a couple hours later I get I call from MY boss, who heard about the email. :O
Clearly it got people's attention. She wanted to tell me that it's important not to upset the new company because "they don't owe us anything" (jobs). I agreed and pointed out that we don't owe them anything either - and right now we are the ones making the personal sacrifice. (I was pretty proud of myself for that moment. She actually stopped, considered, and agreed with me.)
A few hours after that I got an email from the Chief Operating Officer of the new company, letting me know that from now on he was my point of contact. :D He also told me that he wants to meet with me this coming week. So if I go missing, at least there's a paper trail. :D
This is going to help make my decision if I'm able to go to the new company or look for another job. Either way, unless the outgoing company decides to fire me for knocking over the anthill, I have a job until June 30th. :)

Date: 2022-05-08 10:34 am (UTC)As far as your work stuff goes… this is why companies are struggling right now. They feel entitled to workers without remembering that they NEED you to properly run. “They don’t owe you anything.” Well, neither do the employees. They don’t owe the company anything either. It’s a two way street. “No one wants to work” is really just “no one wants to work for you because you’re awful.”
I hope they see your side and realize how valuable you and your team is. Otherwise, it’s their loss and I don’t blame you for seeking out new jobs.
