It's Wednesday, but it feels like Tuesday since I was off. :)

Then again, tonight is Survivor and Tough as Nails, so I guess it really is Wednesday...

The second prompt is feeling lonely, so go make friends with it!  https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1104538.html

This prompt is really throwing me! Every time I think that maybe, just maybe I have something, then I lose it and I'm like, "No, that's not right." I did look it up, because obviously it's tough to get inspiration from something that you don't even know what it is, and I'm just struggling to find out how to work it in to my personal writing style as it is right now.

I'm almost there, but when you mostly are telling personal stories instead of writing fiction, it's hard sometimes to dig around for a story that fits - and that is even worth telling (that's what I'm trying to figure out now, the why behind the story I'm thinking of telling).

In other news, things are quiet on the homefront, thankfully. I've been playing a lot of The Sims 4 lately, and I decided to try and start an official Legacy Challenge (where you have to play through 10 generations of a single family and also hit several different in-game goals), but last night I was like, "No, I've had enough of this," and I wasn't even done with the first generation.

So I started up a new character and am going to try going through 10 generations without necessarily worrying about all the extra goals. Actually, since I'm playing on my PS4, I'm trying to get PS4 trophies with this game file (I can't with a "proper" Legacy Challenge because you have to use cheats and using cheats disables PS4 trophies). One of the trophies is to get through 26 generations of a single household. :/ I don't know if I'll make it to that one.

The allergy pills seem to be working on the symptoms I started developing yesterday...so maybe I'm not getting sick.

~*~

Not looking forward to work this evening.

~*~

One of my dogs was sick in their crate the other night, and I've been cleaning ick all morning. Now I need a shower and I'd love a nap...but work.

~*~

I am coming up with HUGE BLANKS on this prompt. It's gotta be something fictional, but I haven't done fiction in FOREVER.

"Is it allergies or am I getting sick?" is a question I have asked myself far too many times in my life! Hopefully your dog is feeling better :/

For the past 18 months it's more like, "Is it allergies or could it be Covid?"...and that's a shitty way to live. Thus far, it's always been allergies. I'm due for my booster in a week or two, and I have yet to catch the `Rona ::knocks on wood::

We haven't had any more incidents with the dog, so hopefully, it was just a bad tummy for a night or two and he's done.

Yes, the Covid question is always there!

I saw a post on Quora from someone in the military who'd been vaccinated, but decided to test just in case the mild allergy symptoms she thought she was having were Covid.

And they were. Very short-lived (especially compare to allergies), and if she weren't in the military (where contact-tracking is pretty heavily monitored), she waid it wouldn't have occurred to her at all.

It's more the concern about how it affects those around you, in case you're in contact with someone who can't be vaccinated or is immunicompromized.

I don't envy you cleaning vomit out of the dog carrier! And it's always so hard to get the smell out. :(

I work in a similar situation and if I get tested I get an automatic 2-week unpaid vacay from work. Whether I test positive or not.

Thankfully everyone around me at work and whatnot have been vaccinated, so if I were positive, it would hopefully not jump all over the place.

~*~

As for the dog, I'm mostly not looking forward to having to take the bed to the local laundromat to wash. That's more people-ing than I am accustomed to doing.

On the good side, I had some downtime at work tonight and got started on the prompt. Kinda eager to see where this thought goes.

I have an idea rattling around my brain, but whether I can make it work in print is another question. It may wind up in the "why did you think this would work?" file, where it will have lots of company.

Did my brain pay you to say that? Don't believe it. I don't. It doesn't have any money. I stopped its allowance after it went on strike, demanding less work. I held out because it doesn't work much anyway.
Thank you for your kindness.

And you should! He told me his idea, and it's genius. As usual.

Mine, not so much. *cries*

I think mine was middling at best. :) I'm just glad this isn't a "competition" prompt!

I know how I'm going to attack the prompt, but haven't had any time to do more than think about it. Soon ...

The prompt is not doing much for me. I just looked at it yesterday, and then spent time kicking around ideas and deciding I didn't like any of them. I want to write [personal profile] rayaso's idea, but it sadly belongs to him. :(

I'm still behind on reading LAST week's entries, and replying to comments for them, so there's also that!

Gary, you were talking about books the other day, and I never got around to commenting on that. I've been reading a lot of William Gibson, and been irked by it. I liked "Peripheral" and "Neuromancer," but the sequels in both series have frustrated me in a similar way: rotating points of view and a lot of razzle-dazzle that amounts to not very much actually happening (or at least, not much that's meaningful). It's the literary equivalent of Three-Card Monty with disco lights and glitter. :(

What I HAVE enjoyed are several different authors and genres: "The Liar's Dictionary," "Catfishing on CatNet" and "Chaos on Catnet," and "Klara And The Sun" (thank you, NY Times, for all of those). Also the "Last Policeman" trilogy.

The CatNet books were fun and had great pacing. The Last Policeman series was soulful, and I have to say, "pre-apocalyptic" is a new genre for me!

And Klara... sad and haunting. I'm still feeling it. It's funny, too-- Goodreads reviews on it are evenly split between "OMG, so good and so heartfelt" and "Zzzzzz... nothing happens, where even is the narrative arc?" I'm in the first camp, and I wonder about the people in the second one. ;)

I have recently discovered that there are two types of reading, and therefore two types of books. Either it's 2-3 hours, armchair, blanket, tea, reading music, or it's 10 minutes at a time, on the bus, waiting to pick the kids up, in the bathroom, waiting for an appointment, whilst dinner's cooking, etc etc. So if you're an armchair-and-blanket reader, fast paced books can get a bit repetitive and you want something with more depth. But if you're an on-the-bus reader, slow character driven books can feel like a waste of your time. So you need to match the book to the style.

Currently getting my monthly mani-pedi on after work.
WTF o Dee Day: Student got in a fight over a can of Pringles potato chips and threatened to bring a gun to school. He’s one of those cammo-wearing- military-worshiping types. Parents were called. He’s suspended for a while.
