The results were set. Until they weren't. The person who was behind caught up in the last hour, and then went ahead by one vote with about a minute left. Shocking ending!!!

By the time I hit "close poll", one more vote had appeared, to tie it back up again.

Which just goes to show, our audience loves the drama. :D

Or likes torturing you (maybe me too) and wants you to write more!

Because for two of you, that is what is about to happen!

We have another Open Topic for the Sudden Death Write Off, this time between

[personal profile] flipflop_diva
and
[personal profile] littlebitofearth

You have until Thursday, December 12th at 9pm ET to link your entries back to this thread. (in the indicated space below)

Have fun!!

A few words from [personal profile] clauderainsrm:

When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for contestants who tied in the last poll to write another entry, they will face off again to determine who among them will be eliminated.

The results of this new poll will dissolve the bonds that connect them to each other, and ultimately mean that the two with the fewest votes will be eliminated from the LJ Idol Mini season.

The poll closed tomorrow night, Tuesday August 6th, at 9pm ET

Good luck to everyone!

I knew this was going to happen sooner or later but didn't think it would be "sooner"... and it came within a hair of being MUCH more severe.

We have a tie.  [personal profile] kizzy   [personal profile] tamara_in_jakarta ,[personal profile] thephantomq , [personal profile] yamyam_kat

So it's a 4 way tie and 2 of these contestants will be eliminated.  It came within a single vote of being a 15 way tie!!!

Due to circumstances beyond my control (Debby) I will not be able to do the standard "24 hours to write a new entry" standard run off. So instead I'm going to generous and give you 48 hours to write a new entry.   :)

The 4 of you will write an OPEN TOPIC entry.  Which means it can be anything you want. It's your neck on the line, so bring your A-game!!

You will link your entry back to the thread I will be making below by Monday August 5th at 8pm ET.  Then a new poll will go up for the new entries.

In the meantime a new regular prompt will go up as well for everyone not in the run-off. So keep an eye out for that one as well since the survivors are going to need to write something for that!

I’m not sure if you could get two writers who were more different if you set out to do it on purpose. But both made it to the Top 6 - and fate landed them in a tie.

One will come out the other side and be a part of the Top 5. The other will have their torch snuffed. I can’t even say they will be a part of the Jury, since that is over.

The poll will close Saturday April 13th at 9pm EDT.

Good luck to both of you!

It's no real shocker that here we are at the Top 6 and it comes down to another tie vote. This time between [personal profile] hwango  and furzicle.

Which means it comes down to where the Jury decided to award the final immunity. They couldn't give it to one of them, because he already had it. But if they gave it the other... then this is over with.

drum roll please

*looks*

The Jury awards their final immunity of the season to...

[personal profile] rayaso

Congratulations!

Which means we have a Sudden Death Write Off.

It's an Open Topic. So you can write anything you want, and you have until Friday, April 12th at 9pm EDT to link it below.

I'm glad that I actually took the time to read the entries that were submitted before posting a poll. I don't always have the luxury of doing that and have to just scan over them as I'm checking to make sure the link is good and circle back to read.

This time, I had a little more time as I was waiting for the pizza to finish in the oven.

Which means that I saw that https://itsjustc.livejournal.com/534970.html was a sacrifice.

[personal profile] itsjustc  is leaving us, falling on her sword for the greater good (and her Happy Place) - and becoming the final member of the Jury! Thank you so much, for everything. I'm really glad you decided to sign up for Second Chance. You've been gone for far too long. Hopefully we will see you next time!

Which means that [personal profile] sonreir is moving forward, and we have our Top 6!

But you can read her entry at https://sonreir.dreamwidth.org/5610.html - and you really should. I don't usually recommend stuff, but since there is no actual poll, I don't think it hurts to say you are going to enjoy it.

Read the sacrifice as well. Because that's good too! If there had been an actual entry, I know this would have been a shoot out.

clauderainsrm: (Default)
[personal profile] clauderainsrm
If you look at the poll itself, you might not see it.

But it came down to 1 vote. Twice.

Both of them were the last votes cast. One granted immunity. The other created a tie.

Let's talk immunity first.

Every single contestant who is still eligible received multiple votes. At one point though, two people went out in front. Way out in front. In fact I received several ballots with both of their names, to the point that I thought the Jury was trying to create a tie. Maybe they were.

But then I received one last vote - with only one of their names listed. Which means that the contestant who is immune this week is [personal profile] hwango  !

Congratulations.

Which means that we only have one person leaving us RIGHT now:

dmousey who came back into the competition on fire, and who I was beginning to think might just have a few more surges of support to get into the finale as the dark horse no one in their right mind would want to face.

Thank you so much for coming out - you are the next to last member of the Jury who will be making their final decision this coming week. You will be helping to decide who gets 1 step away from being in the final four.

It also means that the final vote (that I saw at least) created a tie for who was taking that second spot.

I could have easily seen a scenario where these two ended up fighting it out as part of the final four. Now, one of them is going to end their run in 6th place.

There is a Sudden Death Write Off between [personal profile] itsjust_c  and [personal profile] sonreir  !

Which means that they have until Wednesday April 3rd at 9pm EDT to link an entry back to this thread. (see below). It's Open Topic, so it can be anything they want. Bring whatever it is left in your tank - because this is going to be it for one of you! :(

Have fun!

Another week and people still can't make up their minds about who should move forward.

So we go to the next stage... another round of wri...

Wait. That's not it.

A knife fight between the two of them in a rusty cage!

Oh, wait - that's not it either.

They both will move on.

*checks* Yep. That's what happens.

Congratulations to [personal profile] furzicle  AND [personal profile] zedmanauk !

What an amazing fight!  I'm pleased that the voters decided to keep you both in the hunt.

A few words from Gary:

We’ve been here before. Two writers with distinct voices facing off where only one of them is going to be able to walk out of it in one piece.

Just a few days ago, there was a tie between four writers, which ended in a tie with two of them.

This is going to decide who is staying and who is going. (Unless, somehow, this ends in a tie as well!)

The poll closes Sunday, Feb 24th at 10pm EST.

Good luck to both of you!

A few words from Gary:

It’s never “your time” to go. In life, or in the game.

If it’s a result people don’t like - they say “it wasn’t their time”.

If it was something they like - or more often, when folks need to feel like there is some structure in the universe, they say that it was.

At the end of the game, there is only one person left standing. In the end of life - that person is me. Sorry, I should have put the “spoiler” on there. I didn’t mean to reveal that I’m actually an immortal being of pure evil. But you could have already guessed that! ;)

With these 4 outstanding writers - 1 of them is about to face their“it’s your time to go” moment in the game.

Even if it’s not really. But sometimes that is the card you draw.

One thing to consider while reading their entries - all 4 of them *knew about the challenge in front of them should they survive. They not only knew about it, they all didn’t blink and wrote AN EXTRA ENTRY, in order to earn the right to fight on in the next week!

So while some might be intimidated by the idea of writing 5 entries, these people are willingly jumping in to get the chance to write a total of 6 in that same time frame! (Maybe less if they decide to wait for the results!)

I took longer to get this poll up (the morning after the deadline actually. Not a long story. Just a boring one that involves “homework drama”) , so I’m going to give you a little longer to read, comment and vote for your favorites!

Because these writers deserve your support.

The poll closes Friday Feb 22nd at 9pm EST. 1 of these 4 isn’t making to next week - and you are going to be the ones deciding who that is going to be!

Good luck to everyone!

It's been one of those days, and from what I've just seen when I was looking over the results, it looks like it's one of those nights as well.

As has been the case in the last couple of weeks the votes trickled in, until they started flooding in at the end.

It's not just true of the poll that everyone sees, it is also true of the Jury vote.

When I say this was a difficult decision for people, there are a couple ways of showing evidence of that. One is mentioning the multiple Jurors who mentioned "this is a really difficult decision" in their emails to me.

Another is to point out that of the 16 contestants, 14 of them are eligible to receive immunity (no one can receive it twice) and 11 of them received votes this time! The other three? Weren't in the danger.

That Jury vote came down to a *single vote*. One vote, the last one to be received, determined who would be getting immunity this week. And that's important, because it just threw a wrench into the poll, as usual.

The poll itself, also came down to a single vote. Which is why it's a four way tie and not a five way.

We were set to lose two, but instead we will be losing one, and sending four others into a Sudden Death Write Off for their lives in this competition. (with two others escaping that fate by, again, a single vote)

Before I get to that, the person we are losing tonight is the great [personal profile] static_abyss . One vote was the difference between staying and going into a Write Off. Given the level of competition in this mini season, I hope that is seen as the positive that it should be - that they were awesome enough to make it this far in the competition and came within a hair of making an even longer run.

I'm definitely going to miss your writing - and hope that you decide to Home Game! But at least we will continue to feel your presence as part of the Jury helping to decide how this mini season is going to play out. (and I hope to keep seeing you in the Green Room as well!)

Which brings us to the question of "Who received immunity?". If you are looking at the poll, you know that answer - but if you aren't, this week the Jury selected [personal profile] yachiru .

Congratulations on getting to fight another week!

The Four who are going on to compete in a Sudden Death Write Off are:

[personal profile] babydramatic_1950
[personal profile] dmousey
[personal profile] furzicle
and [personal profile] zedmanauk

As usual, it's an Open Topic and you have until Wednesday, Feb 20th at 9pm EST to link your entry to the thread below.

You may have been expecting a poll. Instead, you get results!

Three of the four contestants took a bye. Which means only one person turned in an entry. Here it is: https://zedmanauk.dreamwidth.org/3526.html Read it. Comment on it! Vote for it, in your heart at least because there's no actual poll.

I don't eliminate anyone by default, so all four contestants are moving on to Week 13!

Congratulations!

[personal profile] clauderainsrm
It's a Literary Street Fight, and it's only getting more difficult every week.

I said that there would be 3 contestants leaving us, and that announcement (and your votes) have put us in the place for this announcement.

The Jury played its role, selecting someone for immunity. Once again, it came down to a single vote.

They decided to make [personal profile] song_of_thea  safe this week.

Which means that those going home this week (Well, joining the Jury that will help decide the fate of the rest of this season) are:

[personal profile] fausts_dream
and
[personal profile] murielle  (who sacrificed so that others might continue)

Thank you so much to both of you. I say this all the time "thank you for making this season special", but both of you absolutely deserve those words, and much much more.

You notice that is only two names, and I promised three... that is because that immunity threw that third spot into a 4-way tie.

Which means there will be a Sudden Death Write-Off!

Facing off are [personal profile] kimschlotwrites , [personal profile] static_abyss , [personal profile] wolfden and [personal profile] zedmanauk  !

The Topic is, as usual, are Open Topic. (you can write anything you want) and the deadline to link your entries back to the thread I will be starting below, is tomorrow, Jan 29th at 9pm EST.

Have fun!

Good evening.

The head-to-head battle to the literary death matches have taken place and the smoke has cleared. All that remains is naming who is joining the Jury, and who is going forth to take a shot at winning the crown.

Regardless of the outcome, we knew we would be losing some talented people. So it's not much of a surprise that seeing the names here is going to sting. But that's where we are, and where we will be for the rest of this mini season as it plays out. Every week is going to take us one step closer to the end, and one heartbreak after another.

From the main competition - leaving us is

[personal profile] codenamewanderlust

and from the Second Chance, it is

[personal profile] blue_velvet

Thank you so much to both of you for coming out this mini season. I've really been enjoying your writing, and I know a lot of others feel the same way. You certainly gave them a difficult choice.

***

This means that [personal profile] babydramatic_1950  is claiming the final spot and joining the main competition.  Congratulations!

clauderainsrm: (Default)
[personal profile] clauderainsrm
There were two polls, but I'm only going to make one Results post. Because this is the big one. The one that everyone has been waiting to see how it was going to turn out.

And besides, this week had unexpected results in both polls. So we might as well just put all the "Wha..." responses all in one place.

We're start with the main competition, since that is also where we are going to end, and might as well make things circular.

Once again, I asked for the Jury for their picks for who would receive immunity this week, and once again, it was really close. This time it came down to *a single vote*. That's the theme of the mini season after all. Those close calls and the one vote that either came in, or didn't. In this case, that one vote gave someone immunity - and changed this week's results for a second week in a row.

Congratulations to kehlen- who received this week's immunity, who was actually on the chopping block this week. This means they survive another round.

Leaving us this week from the main competition and joining the jury is

the always great [personal profile] megatronix

who will definitely be missed.

Thanks to the immunity, we also have a 3-way tie for that second spot between [personal profile] codenamewanderlust , [personal profile] kimschlotwrites  and [personal profile] murielle . Which means there will be a Sudden Death Write-Off to determine who will be leaving us. More on that later.

Now for Second Chance, they had their own unexpected results. The people joining the Jury are:

[personal profile] alycewilson
[personal profile] oxymoron67
[personal profile] reidharriscooper
[personal profile] stellinas

I'm really sorry to be losing you, but I hope that we will be continuing to see you around with the Home Game, the Green Room and of course in your role as the Jury that is helping to shape how this all plays out.

Those joining the main competition, and in the hunt to win it all are

[personal profile] dmousey
[personal profile] itsjust_c
[personal profile] spilledink562 [personal profile] wolfden
[personal profile] yachiru

There are two names who are missing. Because they tied. Which means that the final spot, that last shot at getting into the main competition is coming down to a one-on-one literary slug fest between
[personal profile] babydramatic_1950  and [personal profile] blue_velvet ! It's another Sudden Death Write-Off!

***

For those in the Write-Offs, here are your instructions. It's Open Topic. Meaning you can write whatever you want.
You have until tomorrow, Sunday Jan 20th at 9pm EST to link your entries back to the dedicated thread below.

Have fun!

For those who missed it,  [personal profile] the_eternal_overthinker  bowed out from the competition. Which means that they were eliminated and [personal profile] song_of_thea moves forward.

There was an entry written though - so make sure to check it out https://song-of-thea.dreamwidth.org/2562.html

[personal profile] clauderainsrm
As I stated, my original plan was to eliminate three people this week. But having read the entries, I felt like I should only take down two.

That puts us in the current situation. Let this be your lesson - mercy causes problems.

As you may know - [personal profile] swirlsofpurple  sacrificed this week.  Which is awful. Definitely leaving us too soon.

It also means that only one other person will be leaving, and of course, as fate (and the voters) decided - there was a tie!

Which means that

[personal profile] song_of_thea

and

[personal profile] the_eternal_overthinker

are going into a high stakes, winner takes all, Write-Off!

One stays. One goes home.

It's a write-off, so it's Open Topic. Which means you can write anything you want.

Dig deep and blow the doors off this thing!

You have until tomorrow, Sunday Jan 6th at 9pm EST to link your entry back to this thread.

Good luck to you both.

Sometimes it's a knockout slugfest. And sometimes things just happen.

In this case,[personal profile] daisysparrow was not able to get anything in for this round and has been eliminated.

Which really sucks. When I saw that the time was running out, I was kind of hoping she'd take a bye so that both of them could survive. Or even better, submit something awesome so that they could go toe to toe!

I'm really sorry to be losing her, especially like this. But I certainly hope that she'll come back for Second Chance (and the Home Game in the meantime)

***

Which means congratulations to [personal profile] katespencer1  for moving on to Week 6. But just because there's no vote, don't let that stop you from reading her entry: https://katespencer1.dreamwidth.org/1842.html

I'm starting to think that you people just like clicking boxes!

Because when the dust settled on the 4-way Write Off, we ended up with another tie!

Yes. Another tie.

Which means we go back another round of the Write Off!

[personal profile] daisysparrow
vs
[personal profile] katespencer1

Two keyboard warriors. 1 venue. Only 1 of them will emerge.

I'll post a thread, below, for them to link their entries in.

It's another Open Topic.  Which means they can write on anything they want.

They have until tomorrow, Thursday Nov 15th at 9pm EST to link their entries back to the thread below.

Have fun!
